Kids’ Lesson Program
Ages 4 & up  ·  Monday – Wednesday
What Is It?
For many years we have had a wonderful group lesson program for kids ages 4 and up. Lessons are designed to be fun and teach kids how to hit all the shots and play tennis. The lessons are Monday – Wednesday. Groups are divided by skill levels to make the most of the 45-minute sessions.
Skill Levels
Beginners
For our younger Frogs (age 6 & up): those who have never played tennis, or who took Beginner’s lessons last year and haven’t played much tennis since.
Advanced Beginners
For tennis players who were in Advanced Beginner lessons last year. Adv. Beginners should be able to have a 4–5 shot rally with an opponent, hit basic volleys, and get the serve in.
Intermediate
For anyone who was in Intermediate lessons last year. Intermediate players should be able to rally with opponents, hit some winners, volley, overhead, and serve with consistency.
Advanced
Advanced players must get permission from the Tennis Coach or Pro. Advanced lessons are for players seeking to be, or already playing, varsity-level tennis.
Tiny Tots
For our youngest Frogs (4 & 5 year olds). These pure-fun ‘lessons’ focus on games, catch, movement, coordination, and the foundation of forehand, backhand, volley, and overhead.

🎾 Hey Frogs! Klahaya Tennis Lessons needs YOUR help getting prizes for players in our lesson program! Throughout each lesson session, players receive tickets they can use in raffles at each practice to win prizes.

Prize types include candy, stickers, and tennis dampeners/shock absorbers (see examples below). Please don’t bring chocolate (it will melt), any goods containing peanuts, pecans, walnuts, or gluten (allergies), homemade goods, or anything that has been opened. Donating any item from the list below counts toward 1 volunteer hour for your family. ($25 worth of prizes=1 hour)

Examples of prizes:
• Bulk packs of Starbursts, Tootsie Rolls, Jolly Ranchers, Ring Pops, Sour Patch Kids, gummies, or a mix of a few candies (QFC has some great ones)
• Stickers: Tennis-related, summer-related, frog-related, etc.

What we specifically need:
• 2 bulk packs of candy
• 2 small packs of stickers
• 1 pack of tennis shock absorbers/dampners to put on tennis rackets

Please drop off your at the Klahaya Front Desk, and label them “Tennis Lesson Prizes”.

Thank you all again!

🎾 Adults or Kids –Private Tennis Lessons

What is It? Private Lessons for kids or adults are a terrific way to focus on anything you want to improve in your game. From Beginners to the most Advanced, tennis is the sport of a lifetime—there is always something to improve. They can be 1-on-1 or in any small group, maximum of 4. Lessons will either be given by Tennis Pro or Tennis Coaches. Lessons from Tennis Coaches can improve any issue with young players’ games very quickly.

Schedule In May and June, lessons can be coordinated with Steve at a mutually agreed time. When tennis season begins June 23, to coordinate the Private Lessons with all the other programs, here are some specific times lessons will be available: Mondays: 4–5pm, Wednesdays: 4–5pm, Thursdays: 8–11am

Scheduling:

If you would like to schedule a private lesson with our Tennis Pro, Steve Kauffman, please reach out to him to discuss his availability and rates.

Our summer tennis coaches are available for private lessons, either one-on-one or in small groups. All coaches are required to charge the standard club private lesson rate. Coach biographies and contact information are listed below. As always, your support and appreciation for our coaches’ time and dedication are greatly valued.

Luke Madath (425) 616-8009

I’ve been playing tennis at Klahaya since I was very young and love coaching. I enjoy working with players of all ages. I competed at #1 singles for Bishop Blanchet and was grateful to have medaled at state twice. I just finished my freshman year at Santa Clara University and was excited to play at the USTA Tennis on Campus National Championship this year at TCU.

PETER KOSTEN  (206) 620-4396

I started in klahaya tennis lessons at a very young age, and have been coaching at Klahaya and Harbor square for the past 2 years. I played all throughout high school at Shorewood, qualifying and placing at the state tournament my junior and senior year. I Just finished up my freshman year at Washington State University where I also competed on the club team. I’m open and excited to coaching players of all ages and skill levels!

Mari Brittle (206) 251-8585

I have been playing tennis at Klahaya since I was young and this program is the reason I am in love with the sport. I am a two-time WesCo girls doubles champ and three time State qualifier. My favorite tennis highlight, however, is being the 2019 Ladder Cross Champ as part of the only all girl team to ever win the tournament. I look forward to helping players of any level improve their skills and their love of the game.
