Head Guard – Summer 2026

Position Overview:

Klahaya Swim & Tennis Club is a member-owned community club established in 1959, serving 240 families each summer. Operating mid-May through mid-September, Klahaya offers swim team, tennis team, lessons, open swim, adult lap swim, and numerous social events.

The Head Guard provides on-deck leadership and oversight of lifeguard staff, ensuring compliance with safety protocols, emergency procedures, and operational standards. The role serves as the primary on-site leader during assigned shifts and supports Klahaya’s commitment to safety, professionalism, and positive member experience.

Supervision & Leadership:

  • Provide active on-deck supervision and direction to lifeguard staff.
  • Serve as the head guard and primary point of contact during assigned shifts.
  • Act as on-site supervisor in the absence of Pool Management.
  • Make immediate operational decisions related to safety and emergency response.
  • Model professionalism and consistently enforce club rules.
  • Assist manager with scheduling, as needed.

 

Training & Emergency Response:

  • Reinforce lifeguard standards and emergency procedures through supervision and
    coaching.
  • Respond promptly and confidently to emergencies.
  • Ensure all incidents and rescues are documented accurately.
  • Support in-service trainings and maintain staff readiness.

 

Safety, Compliance & Facility Oversight:

  • Enforce pool rules and operational procedures consistently.
  • Conduct routine safety checks and ensure rescue equipment is functional.
  • Perform chemical testing and follow corrective procedures when necessary.
  • Inspect pool and surrounding areas for hazards and maintain compliance with
    regulations.

 

Member & Staff Engagement:

  • Interact professionally and respectfully with members and guests.
  • Communicate rules, schedules, and program information clearly.
  • Address minor member concerns and escalate issues appropriately.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive environment.

 

Professional Expectations:

  • Attend required staff meetings and trainings.
  • Uphold all club policies and code of conduct.
  • Demonstrate reliability, sound judgment, and leadership under pressure.
  • Represent Klahaya Swim & Tennis Club positively at all times.

 

Qualifications:

  • Current Lifeguard certification and CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer.
  • Minimum two year of lifeguard experience at Klahaya or equivalent.
  • Proven leadership and strong communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate documentation and conduct thorough safety checks.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing conditions and emergencies.

 

Working Hours & Appointment Terms:

  • Head Guards receive priority scheduling based on availability and operational needs.
  • Hours vary based on seasonal programming and events.
  • Appointment is seasonal and subject to performance evaluation and operational needs.
