Lifeguard – Summer 2026
Position Overview:
Klahaya Swim & Tennis Club is a member owned community club established in 1959. With 240 member families, Klahaya operates from mid-May through mid-September and offers swim team, tennis team, open swim, adult lap swim, and a variety of social activities.
Lifeguards are responsible for maintaining a safe, welcoming, and professional aquatic environment. This role requires vigilance, sound judgment, teamwork, and a commitment to supporting the positive culture or our family-focused club.
Safety & Surveillance Responsibilities:
- Maintain constant, active surveillance of assigned pool areas.
- Enforce all club rules and safety policies consistently and respectfully.
- Identify and correct unsafe behaviors proactively.
- Perform water rescues and provide first aid or CPR/AED care when necessary.
- Activate and follow established Emergency Action Plans (EAPs).
Facility & Operational Responsibilities:
- Complete required opening, closing, and routine safety checks.
- Accurately document incidents, rescues, and maintenance concerns.
- Report hazards, chemical concerns, or equipment issues promptly to
supervisors. - Cleaning, as directed by supervisor.
Member & Community Engagement:
- Provide courteous, professional service to members and guests.
- Communicate rules clearly while maintaining a friendly and respectful tone.
- Support swim team practices, meets, lessons, and club events as assigned.
- Maintain composure and professionalism during busy and high-energy times.
Professional Expectations:
- Arrive on time and prepared for each scheduled shift.
- Maintain all required certifications throughout employment.
- Attend in-service trainings and staff meetings.
- Follow direction from Head Guard(s) and Pool Management.
- Represent Klahaya Swim & Tennis Club positively at all times.
Required Qualifications:
- Current Lifeguard certification (American Red Cross)
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications.
- Strong swimming skills and ability to perform rescues.
- Ability to remain attentive for extended periods and work outdoors.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment:
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, and move quickly around the pool deck.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to enter the water quickly and perform rescues.
- Outdoor work environment with exposure to sun, water, pool chemicals, and
noise. - Seasonal schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
